Thai pastor Sian Buaket examine a map of Thailand's southern coast.
Caldwell, “on loan” from his main ministry to the Isaan people, works
with local Christian leaders like Pastor Sian to reach people affected
by the December 2004 tsunami disaster. |
Tsunami victims in Thailand: Missionary Mark Caldwell and a local
Christian take the half-hour boat ride from a coastal city in Thailand
to several island villages damaged by the tsunami. Caldwell aims not
only to bring physical help to tsunami survivors but also to help
local believers spark a church-planting movement in the region. |

in Thailand: A village leader in Thailand
tells missionary Mark Caldwell about the plight of the Mogen (“Sea
Gypsy”) people while walking through their island village. When the
tsunami came, they ran to higher ground; they returned to find their
long fishing boats battered to kindling wood. Caldwell and local Christians
brought help – and new hope in Christ. |

Mogen villagers in an island village off Thailand's southern coast.
Already poor, the villagers lost their fishing boats when the tsunami
wave roared ashore. With Southern Baptist tsunami relief funds, Caldwell
and a local Thai pastor helped the villagers replace their boats and
get back to work. |
